Teak Furniture – Making the Most of the Warmer Months by Preparing Your Home for the spring

Spring is traditionally seen as a new beginning: it’s when the days get warmer, the evenings get lighter, and the trees start to blossom. As this season brings about a burst of new energy, now is a great time to bring your focus inwards and think about revamping and redecorating your home.

Adding items of beauty to your interior – such as teak furniture and accessories – is uplifting and will brighten your mood every time you see your new purchase. Being surrounded by objects of elegance and value means you’ll enjoy spending a relaxed weekend just pottering about the home and making all those final adjustments to create your perfect haven.

Give Your Home a New Start this spring

When it comes to preparing your home for the spring, the best place to start is always with a de-clutter and a clean. To do this, give your home a thorough going through from top to bottom. Start with the main rooms and evaluate the things you have – if you don’t love it, need it, or it doesn’t hold any sentimental value, then chuck it out. De-cluttering also gives you the perfect opportunity to clean out the cupboards as you go along, so everything smells fresh.

Cleaning and Repairing

If have the time, it’s a good idea to put aside a day dedicated to washing. Wash all your linens including: sheets, duvets, pillows and blankets. Wash sofa covers (if they are removable) or hire an upholstery cleaner to do this for you. Examine the carpets too and decide whether they need to be cleaned. You can find a suitable carpet cleaner in the phone directory.

If you want to give your home a more thorough revamp from top to bottom, now is the time to go through each room to check if any repair work needs to be done. Look at whether you need to patch up any dents in the paintwork or repair any marks on the furniture. With teak furniture, scratches are easy to put right as they can be gently sanded, oiled and buffed.

After a spring clean, you’ll find that everything feels fresher and more organised and, as Feng Shui experts say, this will help bring positive energy into your home.

Organising the Furniture

The next step is to take a good look at your furniture. If you have a furniture piece that doesn’t fit with the decor in a room and you don’t feel uplifted when you see it – if you can afford to – think about replacing it with something you will like the look of, such as teak furniture.

Alternatively, try moving furniture you are not so keen on into another room. You will be surprised how different it looks in new surroundings and you can grow to love it if it’s in a more suitable place.

Sometimes, just moving the furniture and putting it into a different place will give you more room. So, if you are not 100 per cent happy with your interior, have a go at reorganising.  This may free up space for something you have always dreamed of – such as an area for a bookcase (to create a library) or a space for a desk (so you have the home office you always wanted).

Buying New Furniture

Decide whether you have all the furniture you need; or do you want something smaller, bigger, or with more, or less, storage space?

Make lists of the furniture you either need or want to replace. If you are on a particularly tight budget, invest as and when you can – this way you will value and cherish every piece you buy.

If you are investing in brand new furniture, make sure everything you buy is the right size and also fits in with the theme of the room, in style and colour.

The great thing about teak furniture is that it is always available in a colour to suit your requirements. It can be stained to light, dark or mid-range tones and, if you can’t find the exact colour on the Puji website, just contact us by telephone or email so we can meet your requirements.

Finishing Touches

The finishing touches are all about the little things that make a house into a home.  Take a look at each room and see where you can add objects of beauty. It may be as simple as putting out fresh flowers, or scented candles, and this is an inexpensive way to give your home a vibrant look ready for spring.
